EMG Mk 10B Hand Made Gramophone made in 1934

A very special item with a unique history. This gramophone was supplied to the Record Reviewing Committee of 'The Gramophone' magazine in London, UK where it was used for reviewing all new 78 rpm records until the end of the 78 era in the 1950s. EMG fitted it with an electric motor to save them a lot of winding! It has a British 230v motor, but it comes with a small transformer to run it from 115v. It has a ball governor to adjust the speed.

The papier mache horn measures 29" across and was the largest size horn produced as standard by EMG, though a few even larger ones were available to special order. These were known as Mk 10B Oversize. The case of the EMG is veneered with burr walnut and cross-banded with mahogany. The horn is covered with 'alligator' pattern paper and gloss varnished. See detail images of the case and the horn.

The machine is in excellent condition, its 4-spring soundbox has been rebuilt, motor runs well. Buyer collects from Vancouver Island. May be viewed by appointment or contact the seller at mechmusicmuseum@aol.com.
