Imperial Phonograph - Canadian Antique Phonograph Project

The Imperial phonograph was manufactured from 1917 by the Imperial Phonograph Corporation, a division of the National Table Co., Ltd., 1882 Third Avenue East, Owen Sound, Ontario who also produced Knapp phonographs.

Canadian Furniture World and the Undertaker, February 1921, p. 29: "In conjunction with the N. A. Bent Chair Co's exhibit a display of the National Table Co.'s line of phonographs was shown. These music machines are noted for their very fine cases. Fifteen different styles were shown, two of the newest being of Chippendale design. One electric machine was displayed. Electricity is the coming motive power for phonographs, say this company, and they are going in for this style quite extensively."

The Victory Talking Machine Co., Limited, 315 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba placed several ads in the Winnipeg Tribune from September through December 1917 for Imperial phonographs, "the wonderful sweet-tone Imperial talking machines". These machines were stock purchased from the Imperial Mfg. Co. It is not known whether the manufacturer was the Imperial Phonograph Corporation in Owen Sound, Ontario or some other Imperial company. The line art illustration in the ad for the Imperial talking machine is identical to the illustration in the 1917 ad for the Victoria phonograph. (see the Victoria page.
