"Vancouver - Musicmaster Phonograph Co Ltd (mfrs) east end Smythe." (Wrigley's Classified Business Directory, 1918, p 1266) "Nineteen new companies started business in British Columbia this week including Musicmaster Phonograph Company Limited, $500,000." (The Province (Vancouver), January 27, 1921, p. 17) "Musicmaster Phonograph Co., Ltd., Rogers' Building, Vancouver, has been registered, acquiring the business carried on by H. Hamilton and J. B. Maysmith under the name Musicmaster Phonograph Co. Capital, $500,000." (Canadian Furniture World and the Undertaker, April 1921, p 57) "The MusicMaster Phonograph Co., Ltd., Vancouver, has made an assignment." (Talking Machine World, December 1921, p. 154) The phrase "Music Master" was commonly used by several companies to describe their phonographs. In 1918, Pathé lauded their Pathéphone as "the World's Greatest Music Master, the finest Phonograph made" (Toronto Daily Star, December 14, 1918, p. 13). ![]() In 1919, a classified ad in the Toronto Daily Star, March 22, 1919, p. 21 offered a "Rare bargain, brand new one hundred and sixty-five dollar beautiful cabinet Vitaphone, the Music Master, plays all disc records, sacrifice for $87 for quick sale". ![]() And in 1920, another ad described a "Real gramophone bargain, one only, brand new, beautiful large cabinet Melbaphone, the Music Master, cost $225, for quick sale $125."
