Challenge

All of the ads for the Challenge Phonograph were placed by Standfield McPherson Co., 499 Bloor West, Toronto in late 1919. Likely a small local furniture manufacturer was hoping for a quick profit with his product among Christmas shoppers. Standfield MacPherson was a major retail outlet for Starr phonographs. A detailed history of the company and the store is presented in an article published in Antique Phonograph News, STANDFIELD MACPHERSON COMPANY, PHONOGRAPHS - What’s in a Picture - Applied Forensics by Arthur E. Zimmerman and Betty Minaker Pratt.
