Challenge

The Challenge Phonograph was a short-lived brand marketed exclusively by Standfield McPherson Co. located at 499 Bloor St. West in Toronto. All of the ads appeared in the Toronto Daily Star newspaper in November - December 1919. It is believed to have been a private label produced by a small local furniture manufacturer hoping to capitalize on the holiday shopping season.

Standfield MacPherson was a major retail outlet for Starr phonographs. A detailed history of the company and the store is presented in an article published in Antique Phonograph News, STANDFIELD MACPHERSON COMPANY, PHONOGRAPHS - What’s in a Picture - Applied Forensics by Arthur E. Zimmerman and Betty Minaker Pratt.
